Hey there! Let’s talk about Street Fighter II: The World Warrior!

Released in 1991 for arcades, this game is the second installment in the Street Fighter series and the sequel to the original Street Fighter, which came out in 1987. It’s Capcom’s 14th arcade game on the CP System. In Street Fighter II, you can choose from a bunch of awesome playable characters, each with their own unique fighting style!

Some of the rules and conventions from the first game are still in place. You’ll play a series of best-two-of-three matches, where you’ll engage in close-quarter combat with your opponents. Each round, you’ll need to deplete your opponents’ vitality before the timer runs out. If both opponents knock each other out at the same time or the timer runs out with both fighters equally vital, it’s a ‘double KO’ or ‘draw game’! Additional rounds will be played until someone wins.

In the first edition of Street Fighter II, a match could go up to ten rounds without a winner. But in the Champion Edition, that was reduced to four rounds. When playing single-player, the computer-controlled opponent wins by default if there’s no clear winner by the end of the final round.

In single-player mode, you’ll get bonus points after every third match. There are three bonus games: a car-breaking event, a barrel-breaking bonus game, and a drum-breaking bonus game! The controls are pretty similar to the original - you’ll use an eight-directional joystick and six attack buttons. You can jump, crouch, and move your character towards or away from opponents with the joystick. The punch and kick buttons have different strengths and speeds (Light, Medium, and Heavy).

New to the game is the ability to grab and throw opponents, which wasn’t in the original Street Fighter. You can also perform a variety of basic moves in any position. And, you can do special moves by inputting directional and button-based commands, just like in the original.

What’s really cool about Street Fighter II is that you can cancel the animation of some moves by performing another move during the animation, allowing you to combine basic and special moves together. This combo system became a standard part of fighting games and was expanded upon in later Street Fighter installments.

So, that’s Street Fighter II in a nutshell! It’s an iconic game that’s still loved by many today.
