Hey there! I’m so excited to share with you the amazing story of Space Invaders, one of the most iconic video games of all time!
Developed by the brilliant Tomohiro Nishikado and released by Taito in 1978, Space Invaders was inspired by some of the biggest names in pop culture, like Breakout, The War of the Worlds, and Star Wars. These pioneers of video gaming helped pave the way for the global phenomenon we know and love today!
As soon as Space Invaders hit the arcades in 1978, it became an instant hit! Did you know that the original plan was to feature human soldiers as the aliens? But Taito wisely decided to change it to aliens to avoid sending the wrong message, and we’re all glad they did!
Space Invaders went on to become a global sensation, being licensed in the United States in 1980 and released on various platforms, including coin-operated arcades, the Atari 2600, and the Nintendo Entertainment System. Can you believe it generated over 500 million dollars in revenue throughout its lifetime?!
So, what’s the game all about? It’s a classic 2D shooter where you play as a human hero who must protect the earth from an alien invasion! Each stage features 48 aliens arranged in six columns, slowly advancing toward the earth as they move back and forth in a set pattern. Your goal is to blast all the aliens before they reach the earth, while also avoiding getting hit by their random shots!
Here’s a fun twist: as you progress, you’ll encounter shields that you can hide behind to avoid getting shot. And, as an added challenge, there are three shields to master, each with its own unique characteristics!
So, are you ready to join the battle and save the earth from those pesky aliens? Let me know if you have any questions or if you’d like to learn more about this beloved game!
